Slugging? Have you heard of it? It’s a skincare trend having a quite a long moment thanks to TikTok. And unlike many other skincare trends on Tik Tok it is worth a go. Well, a version of it anyway.
It’s touted as the answer for dry, dehydrated and irritated skin caused by a damaged skin barrier.
While it might sound like something to do with sports or drinking —slugging means slathering a petroleum jelly, i.e. Vaseline, all over your face, on top of your usual products before bed. Go to sleep. Wake up looking like a goddess.
All that Vaseline makes your face shiny and slippery like a slimy slug … sounds lovely, right!?
But the idea is good. Putting an occlusive product on your face locks in moisture, helps the ingredients in your normal products to penetrate further and work better and therefore repair your skin barrier. You should waken up with smoother, softer, plumper, more hydrated skin.
It’s been endorsed by many dermatologists, a medical specialty that is all over social media selling stuff and offering opinions. As a nurse of many years, I believe we should be a bit wary of these dermatologists, especially on socials, as they do get paid a lot of money by brands to endorse many things … anyhow back to slugging.
While Vaseline might be a cheap and easy stop-gap, there’s a better solution that offers the same moisture-locking properties but has the all-important repairing plant oils rich in omega fatty acids that your skin loves: Blam Blam Balm.
In fact, I was way ahead of this slugging trend as "Sleeping Face Mask" is one of the many uses we have on the Blam Blam Balm label.
With New Zealand Beeswax and Organic Fairtrade Shea butter the Blam Blam is a great occlusive, so it does the same job (or better) than petroleum jelly in creating a protective seal over your skin to keep hydration locked inside. And with its organic Rosehip, Hemp seed, Jojoba, and Safflower oils it will also help feed and repair your skin….and there is no petrol involved at all!
It also smells amazing and feels luxurious and won’t make you feel slimy or slug-like and I promise you: your face will not stick to your pillow while you sleep, unlike the Vaseline.
So, forget slugging and start Blamming and go to bed feeling like a goddess.
