Sensitive skin: Pink Clay Mask is perfect

Countless times I've met people who tell me they have sensitive skin and are unsure what to use. I created our Pink Clay Mask to work on all skin types but it's especially designed for sensitive and mature skin.

Pink Clay is the gentlest of the clays – it mildly draws out impurities, lightly exfoliates without irritation and cleanses without removing the natural oils in your face.

It softens your skin and its rich mineral content, including very high levels of silica, provides nourishment to the skin helping it to function well, retain moisture and so creating the much-needed hydration. Dehydrated and sensitive skin is caused when the skin barrier has been weakened.

Rich in history

There is a lot out there on clay masks as if they are something new, but the reality is that clay masks have been around for a very long time.

The Pharaohs’ physicians used clay as an anti-inflammatory agent and antiseptic. And it’s said Cleopatra used clays to preserve her complexion. Aristotle recommended eating it for its therapeutic benefits as far back as 350BC. We were using it in Sydney way back in the 1990s as a full body treatment, wrapping ourselves in clingfilm. A messy business and not one I recommend.

Why we make a dry clay mask

If you are wondering why our mask is dry, this is because it avoids the very heavy preservatives needed for pre-made wet clay masks. With our dry mask you get just a pure natural treatment and it's easy to make.

What is in the Agnes & Me Pink Clay Mask:

Agnes & Me pink clay mask ingredients
From left to right: French Pink Clay, organic lavender flower powder and organic hibiscus flower powder.

French Pink Clay – rich in silica for skin nourishment, it gently and effectively draws out impurities, softens and tones the skin.

Moroccan Lava Clay – also known as rhassoul clay deeply cleanses, calms, removes excess oil and leaves skin looking and feeling toned and silky smooth.

Organic Lavender powder – soothes the skin and has antiseptic, toning and healing qualities.

Organic Hibiscus powder – helps gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin, is high in anti-oxidants and as its descriptor “the Botox of plants” would suggest it is there to tighten and tone the skin.

Arrowroot Powder – absorbs oil, makes your skin softer and smoother and is also an anti-inflammatory.

Geranium essential oil – for its amazing properties. It balances, cleanses, tightens, tones and promotes healthy skin growth.

How to a pink clay mask

  1. In a porcelain or glass bowl* mix one teaspoon of clay with half a teaspoon of water until a nice consistency of a paste is formed. The thicker the paste the stronger the properties
  2. Apply to damp clean face and neck, avoiding eyes.
  3. Sit down and relax until it is just almost dry **
  4. Rinse off in the shower or with a soft flannel*** and warm water
  5. After all clay is completely removed moisturise as normal

* The adding of water just before application literally provides the required charge to the minerals in the clay. This negative charge ensures that the clay particles can do their work of binding toxins and sebum. That is also why you should use a plastic or ceramic mixing bowl, not a metal one.

** Resist the temptation to leave clay masks on your face for too long. It is, in fact, best to remove the product before it has completely dried out. This will stop your skin from feeling tight afterwards. Make sure you use plenty of water when removing the mask anyway and use a cloth

*** A flannel you are happy to be pink at the end

How often to use it

I suggest you use 1-2 times a week and to follow up this mini-facial treat by applying a dollop of Agnes & Me face cream. Your face will feel amazing, I promise.
